Banos de Colina

These are the geothermal baths of Banos de Colina, in Chile. We traveled for hours into the mountains on a road that ends here. The baths consist of clay and mineral pools cascading down the steep hillside that are fed by a spring, which has the apperance of a normal stream issuing from the side of the mountain, except the water is boiling H OT! So folks get in to soak in the supposedly curative waters, some going as far as to smear the clay all over their skin for full effect of the minerals. Mountainous parts of Chile are dotted with geothermic baths, there is even one where the water is slightly radioactive , if you’re into extreme bathing.
