Downtown Santiago, Chile

Here’s a pic of a plaza near one of the hotels we stayed at in downtown Santiago. I was pretty impressed, the city was clean and they have well developed public transportation, you can go just about anywhere in the city by metro, which is clean, safe, and many of the metro stations have art (murals, sculpture) to make them more interesting (one station has a huge mural depicting the whole history of Chile!). If you don’t have plans to leave the city, I don’t even think that you need a car. The church underneath the clock tower was centuries old and housed a collection of sacred art dating from the late 1400s. The clock tower is newer than the church structure as it had been destroyed at least twice by earthquakes over the centuries.
