El Calafate is a small town located on the shore of Lago Argentino, a large glacier fed lake near the Andes in Argentina. The lake has a bright turquoise color, deep blue due to the pure glacier melt, and brightened by the milky cast it gets from the tiny particles of glacier ground stone that is small enough to stay in suspension in the water. We could see icebergs floating in the lake, the broken remainders of great chunks of ice calving frim the face of the Perito Moreno glacier, many kilometers away.
